The religious landscape of Naouk is varied. However, there is a widely accept difference between major and minor gods. Major gods, considered Panthejor; differ greatly from The Panathedim minor.
The Panathejor
The Panthejor consists of the most powerful gods who are widely worshiped by most of civilization. These ‘major’ gods are considered the more powerful gods for many reasons, however their domain does not encompass all. There are six deities considered of this class: Alavandor, Netandiel, Zedancial, Vordekael, Tokon, and Eiselken.
The most important factor in their major status is their association with one of the six Daes of the Wox. In addition, their status brings in part their vast numbers of Clerics and Paladins being well respected in any town or village who knows of The Panath. This institutional recognition translates into real direct political and social power.
The Panathedim
The Panathedim is any god which is not one of The Panathejor. Some are revered and commonly known, however not officially respected as their Panthejor counterparts. These deities play crucial roles in the spiritual and cultural fabric of Naouk. Ranging from priordial forces, to newly ascended mortals, they carve their sphere of influence and gather devoted followers who greatly affect the social and political realms.
Many of The Panathedim are deeply tied to specific geographic locations or cultural groups. Most often predate the establishment of a widely known Panath. Mountain Villages might revere an ancient stone god, while coastal communities honor sea spirits. These deities understand the intimate needs of their communities in ways the distant Panathejor cannot.
Some Panathedim govern highly specific aspects. There is a devious god of money named Azure, Femook a deity of forgotten memories. While their influence can be narrow, these deities are incredibly powerful within their specialized domains. Often times rivaling the Panathejor’s capabilities.
The most dangerous category of Panathedim are those that are considered heretical or destructive to the persistence of mortal life. These deities might represent concepts that threaten social stability, promote dangerous magical practices, or challenge the authority of The Panathejor.
